Salmon Bake

It is Time to Grill Salmon!
It is time to start thinking about the annual Salmon Bake and Silent Auction. This year, the Bake will be held Friday, May 18th. We will return to Sugarhouse Park Rose Garden building again this year. It is a great location with indoor space for the silent auction and socializing in case of inclement weather. Bring your outdoor toys as May holds promise for a longer and warmer evening. The silent auction and appetizers will begin at 5 pm and dinner will be served at 7 pm.
Additional items are needed for the auction. Please contact Matt Johnson if you or your company has something to donate. matthewperryjohnson [at] gmail [dot] com
Our entertainment will be the River House band. River House is a country blues, classic and southern rock band performing material spanning the decades from the 1930's to the present. TUNA’s own Patrick McEwen is a member and leader of the band. You can go to the band’s web site to hear music and for downloads. www.riverhouseband.com
Save a few bucks and help give me an idea of how many to expect by purchasing your ticket in advance on line at the TUNA Store or at Wild Rose, Wasatch Touring or White Pine Touring. Advance tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children under 12. At the door, tickets will be $20 for adults and $10 for children. This is a small increase over last year. We try to cover the food expenses with ticket sales, so that all profits from the silent auction can go to the Junior programs. Please be generous with your bids in the auction.
Volunteers are especially important in making this event a success. Some specific needs are organizing appetizers, baking cookies, baking potatoes, prepping salad ingredients, setting up tables and chairs, picking up grills, grilling salmon, clean up and more. Please contact Donna by cell: 435-729-0115 to volunteer. Or by e-mail dwstice [at] gmail [dot] com

Parley's Canyon Trail study/survey
Submitted by chris on Wed, 05/09/2012 - 10:27A study had been published concerning the proposed Parley's Canyon Trail that would run from Mtn Dell to Summit Park. This would offer cycling options other than the shoulder of I-80 and the potential of XC ski track. Details of the study can be found at http://www.recreation.slco.org/planning/PDFdocs/Parleys_Canyon_Trail.pdf
There is a survey concerning this study that can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/WWFNJ2X
Note that the survey asks for your choice on a few options, including north side or south side east of Lamb's Canyon, and options on ways to cross from the north to the south (existing underpass, new bridge, new tunnel). New bridge costs about three times what a new tunnel does. North side to the archery club and then going through a tunnel might be the most ski-friendly option.

Johnson is currently the Assistant Nordic Coach at Burke Mountain Academy in East Burke, Vt. In addition to working at Burke, his coaching experience includes two trips to the Scandinavian Cup, described by the US Ski Association as “one of the premier steps of the elite junior athlete and coach development pipeline.” Johnson was the trip leader for the most recent Scando Cup.
Johnson has also worked as a coach at the three most recent Junior Olympics, the nation’s top race for Junior skiers.
“We are excited and looking forward to dynamic growth and increased success in our Junior Programs from Learn-to-Ski to Competition with the addition of Matthew Johnson to our organization,” said TUNA President Richard Hodges. “Matt brings successful national and international coaching experience to our programs.”

Important TUNA Junior Program Information
Submitted by Richard Hodges on Fri, 04/29/2011 - 20:37Dear TUNA Members and Friends:
The Utah Nordic Alliance (TUNA) Board of Trustees has recently made some changes in our Junior Ski Programs. We have decided to expand the focus of and develop a more formal athlete progression track in our Youth Programs. We have gathered feedback and information over the last several seasons from parents, regional programs, national programs and athletes to find a path to improve our Junior athlete’s skills and participation no matter their ultimate skiing aspirations. TUNA’s volunteer Trustees have invested a great amount of time, consideration and effort in this challenging process.

TUNA Classified Ads
Submitted by dave bruns on Sun, 03/22/2009 - 22:08Active TUNA Members can post classified ads on the TUNA website for free! If you've got ski-related equipment that you'd like to sell, give it a try. Here's a quick primer:
- Posting classified ads is free! However, to post a classified ad, you must be logged into the website and must be an active member for the current season (membership runs from July 1 through June 30). Buyers don't need to be logged in and don't need to be TUNA members.
- Classified ads are for ski and outdoor equipment only please. No tires, cars, air-conditioners, computer equipment, furniture and the like -- for that, please try ksl.com or craigslist. They're also free.
