We will be having an orientation trip to the TUNA yurt on Saturday Nov 23, 2019. If you have not used the yurt before, you need to complete an orientation before doing so. This is a good opportunity to do that.
Meet at the trailhead by 10:00 am. The trailhead is 10.75 miles from the Kamas stoplight out the Mirror Lake Highway. The trail is the Norway Flats Road, on the north side of the Mirror Lake Hwy. Note, if you drive out you will need to get a day permit at the Kiosk that is about 5 miles out the Mirror Lake Hwy.
The trip will consist of hiking in to the yurt and showing people where it is and how all the systems work. I am hopeful that we will have enough snow to require skis or snowshoes, so I would plan on bringing one of those. But, I would also have a back-up plan in case we are hiking.
The hike in is 3 miles with about 1000 feet of elevation gain. Figure maybe 1.5 hours to hike in. The actual orientation will not take long – maybe an hour up at the yurt. If you want to go hiking/snowshoeing/skiing afterwards you are welcome to do so. BUT, there may be a party staying at the yurt on Sat, so we may not have the use of the yurt for the day.
Dogs are welcome, as are kids. Bring warm clothes, something to eat and drink. Let us know via email if you plan to attend (yurt [at] utahnordic [dot] com); we will not hold you to it, but want to get a general idea of how many people to expect. And of course, if you have any questions, just let us know.
