Junior Fall Dryland Training
Under the direction of TUNA Head Coach Bill Hokanson, Junior Program fall training sessions will take place from early September through mid-November. Two programs are available:
The TUNA Salt Lake Nordic Ski Team (SLNST) is a junior program for young athletes ages 13 - 19 years old, interested in active physical training and technical ski skill development. Race participation is not required, but athletes are encouraged to join the team for local, regional, and national junior races. Fall training will be four or more days per week in a program aimed at developing physical fitness (speed, strength, and endurance), agility, and ski technique.
The TUNA Junior Comp Team is designed for younger 8 - 13 year old skiers. Athletes will meet two or more times per week for activities designed to develop total and ski-specific fitness, as well as improve technical skills.
The goal of both programs is to have fun, while preparing to ski fast! For more information, contact Bill Hokanson at skiingxc AT yahoo DOT com, or (801) 583-8189 or (801) 949-2971 (cell).
Adult Competition Dryland Training
Bill Hokanson will also organize adult training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting on Sept 2, at Sugarhouse Park, on the grass strip along the north side of the pond. The program is designed to aid skiers in their preparation for the upcoming season. These are high intensity sessions, designed to supplement distance training that adult skiers traditionally perform on their own. Bill's contact information is listed above.
Recreation Dryland Training
Laurie Humbert and Janet Myshrall will again conduct their Wednesday evening sessions, starting on Sept 3, at Sugarhouse Park on the north side of the pond. The program will emphasize core stability exercises, ski specific strengthening techniques, flexibility training, ski walk and bounding interval work.
Laurie is a former Olympic biathlete; she can be reached at laurie_humbert AT yahoo DOT com or (801) 485-7309. Janet is a physical therapist and yoga instructor; her contact information is janet AT livewellfitness DOT org or (435) 901-3579.
