Nordic Days at Northfork Park
The Utah Nordic Alliance (TUNA) and Weber County are working together to provide a free Learn to Cross Country Ski Program in Northfork Park starting January 12. The program, funded by a RAMP grant to the Ogden chapter of TUNA, is intented to introduce and help children, parents, and adults enjoy the groomed ski trails in Northfork Park. Each session consists of ski games and activities that introduce participants to skiing and basic ski techniques. Adult sessions will include mini-tours of the park and assistance with ski technique. Particpants will be divided into groups based on age and / or ability.
The emphasis, for the children, is ski play and fun through which children will develop basic skills without knowing they are learning. Children should be dressed for winter play including hats, mittens, and pants appropriate for the temperature of the day. Parents should be careful not to overdress the children with bulky coats, so that they can move freely and tumble about. Parents are encouraged to walk along with small chilren as an aid, althought this is not manditory. All particpants need to come with ski equipment. No-wax skis, boots, bindings, and poles can be rented at Diamond Peak, and Canyon Sports. Please reserve in advance.
Sessions will be held on Friday, Jan 12th and 19th, and February 9th. A finali, or “Nordic Day” event, will be held on Saturday, Feb 24th. This event will include “fun races”, tours, contests, and games for the kids. “Nordic” dress is encouraged with an award for the “Best Nordic” attire. Awards, refreshments, and lots of encouragement are provided by Ogden Nordic. Sessions are scheduled from 3:45pm to 5:30 pm with the exception of Saturday, February 24th, when the day will begin @ 9 am and finish around 12 noon. All sessions will be held at the Southgate to Northfork Park. For more information and answers to questions please call Dave Jenkins 940-0078 (Ogden Valley), or Linda Ries 801-737-2672 (Ogden Area).
Please RSVP now, so that we can plan the appropriate number of instructors, and refreshments.

Junior Team Success in Wasatch Citizen Series
Despite low snow conditions in Northern Utah, the Ogden Nordic Ski team posted strong results in the 2nd Wasatch Citizens Series (WCS) race Park City on Saturday, Dec 30th. This was the largest race in the history of WCS with 325 skiers skating up to 15 km. Graham Stomberg lead team finishing 12th overall in the open category. Brother Cole stromberg finshed 6th in his age group. Russell Davis (11) and Jack Davis (7) both finished 5th in their age groups. Frances Davis (9) lead the girls, winning the event by a margin of 28 seconds and her sister Anne Marie (5) made many circuits around the obsticle course. Both girls commented, “WOW, that was fun!…...but I wish we had more girls up here.” So, come on girls, strap on your boards, and come chase the other kids around Northfork Park. The Ogden Nordic kids ski in Northfork park @ 4 pm on Fridays. The skiing in Northfork Park is surprisingly good, despite low snow condtions. Many thanks to the volunteers from Ogden Nordic, who groom the trails in Northfork Park, and to Weber County for all of the support!
