Dryland training sessions for Ages 8 to 13 year old TUNA junior skiers will be held in Sugarhouse Park beginning Thursday September 8th, 2016. Meet in Sugarhouse Park in the parking lot at the end of the road on the north side of the pond.
The training program is designed to help young athletes have fun, stay fit, and prepare for the upcoming cross country ski season. Young skiers interested in joining the TUNA U14 Comp Team are strongly encouraged to participate. Training sessions are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons from 4:00 – 5:30 PM.
TUNA U14/U16/U18 Dryland Training
The Fall TUNA Comp Ski Team is a program designed for competition preparation from the beginning of September until the winter season begins in late November. Dryland training sessions are aimed primarily at 14-19 year old TUNA junior skiers (U14/U16/U18 age groups) and will be held at various local training venues in the Salt Lake valley and Park City area beginning Monday Aug. 29, 2016.
Steve Cook will lead private sessions for individuals throughout the fall and winter to help prepare Senior and Masters for the upcoming race season or find more enjoyment out of Nordic skiing. The program is designed to be a flexible and individualized training program for anyone from college skiers, to post-college recreational racers, to Masters of any age who want to improve their ski technique and fitness for the coming season.
4-time Masters World Champion and 20+ time National Champion Barry Makarewicz will lead twice weekly dryland training sessions at Sugarhouse Park and other various locations between SLC and Park City this fall. Barry brings over 35 years of experience in multisport training and competition to help adult athletes improve their performance, prevent injuries, build overall fitness and strength while having fun doing it. Training modes will vary, with time spent on foot and on rollerskis.
TUNA Head Coach Steve Cook will lead a group of Masters interested in improving general and ski specific conditioning throughout the fall. Practices will be held at Lindsey Gardens in the Avenues from 8:30am to 10:00am on Thursday mornings. Participants should have some familiarity with nordic skiing as we will be practicing ski movements and agility. We can tailor workouts to individual needs, however the general plan will be to do dryland exercises with running shoes and athletic clothes.
