Skied the trees in Germania lift line, race course, and ballroom.....Great snow....did a little mining. The groomer was running laps on the transfer tow area, so it should be skate ready. In the words of Marvin Gaye, "ain't nothin like the real thing".
American Fork Canyon

Little Mill is closed this winter due to construction. The campground is being renovated - adding new and repairing old facilities. And, yes, they are actively working through the winter so please stay out. The road is all chewed up from vehicle traffic so the skiing would be bad anyway.

I skied Granite Flat this morning around 10 AM. The person at the fee booth told me it was groomed 2 days ago, but it was hard to tell today. Perhaps they just ran over the roads with a snowmobile, maybe the groomer, but if they set classical tracks I couldn't see any sign of them - just skier made tracks. The roads are snow-packed and chewed up a bit from hikers and snowshoers, but it was still nice for classical skiing and it would even be passable for skate skiing. The track is a bit rough, but there is plenty of fluffy, slightly sticky snow.
Beaver Creek Trail

The trail was rolled and a double track set on Thurs, Jan 10. According to the Kamas Ranger District, they plan to groom once or twice a week, but they don't have a specific schedule. The classical skiing up there is truly delightful right now. For information on when they last set a track, call 435-783-4338.

Yesterday was incredible, we started at 0800 and had almost perfect coudouroy for the complete big loop. Only saw 4 snowmobiles and the air was clear as a bell - you could see forever. I'd been up to Daniel's a couple times before yesterday, the Sunday mornings 2 and 3 weeks ago. Both times only the short loop had been groomed.
La Sal Mountains

The southern storm track has dumped three good storms on the La Sals in December, bringing the snowpack at the Geyser Pass Trailhead to about three feet. Plowing to the 9,900 foot trailhead is excellent this winter (so far). Grooming of the Geyser Pass and Gold Basin trails began this week, and continues about twice-weekly by a small but dedicated group of volunteers. Current snow consditions are available at the La Sal avalanche report (click link above). 2008 Lasaloppet is March 28th.
