Daniels Summit 25 miles of perfect corduroy

Stenquist and I beat the snowmobiles this morning and were amazed at how much snow there is at Daniels Summit - about 2 feet at the Lodge and 5-6 on Strawberry Ridge.

Snowbasin Good coverage, classic track at Snowbasin

Skied on Sat afternoon up the Snowbasin road and a quick loop around the trails at the top. Good coverage, classic track set although firm conditions probably better for skate. Skittery corduroy but not too icy to get an edge in. This is perhaps the first time I've had a classic track all season!

Lower portion of trail very firm, but not too icy, up to switchbacks. Above switchbacks will be softer with some windblown snow.
Classic reset from below Affleck Park to the summit. Left existing classic for lower portion. As of noon a stiff down canyon wind.

SR65 SR65 groomed this morning

Skiing should be good and fast all the way to Big Mountain. Classic is good above Afleck Park but below Afleck the snow is too firm to set classic.

SR65 a bit of fresh

Nils hit SR65 this morning. A bit of fresh, but questionable how it will bond to the firm surface for the first 1.5 miles. Furthur up it gets much better. Groomed to the second switchback. Some classic track set. Rerouted slightly for two moose on the road at the bathroom.

Round Valley Good skating conditions given the low snow

I skated there last Wednesday (25th) and Sunday (29th), with low expectations but was impressed! Not all is open, but most is. Hats off to their groomers for securing a good solid base!

SR65 Skating track set this afternoon

Groomed to the top for skating only, as the bottom portion was too hard for setting classic. The portion above the first switchback (about 3 mi. up) is often a little rough due to the uneven surfaces created in the deeper/softer snow over the last several days by on-snow vehicles. Because of the sun and warm temps midday, by about 3:30 pm the groomed surface was beginning to ice up, especially below Affleck Park.

Mountain Dell Icy conditions/skiing not recommended

We are not able to groom as the ice is creating a safety issue for the groomers. Extensive ice makes for dangerous ski conditions too. Skiing is not recommended at Mtn Dell.

North Fork Park Skiing is Good at North Fork

The groomed trails have plenty of snow and are fast with good edging. Classic track is set but you may need a klister, better skate conditions today. So if you don't mind the drive you can expierence some of the better skiing in the area. Mtn Dell pass is good for North Fork, otherwise a $5 donation is asked for. For the North Fork ski report call 801-399-7275 and for directions and great web cam shots go to ogdennordic.com.
