Programs
The primary objective of the Salt Lake Nordic Ski Team (SLNST) is to promote cross country skiing opportunities for all ages in the Salt Lake area, with an emphasis on fun, fitness and skill building, through age appropriate practice groups for skiers of all levels, from novice skiers to advanced racers. In furthering this mission, the SLNST offers the programs listed below. Important, please bring the following to your first session:

Adult Recreation Dryland Training 2009 - 2 day

Laurie Humbert and Janet Myshrall will again conduct their Monday and Wednesday evening sessions, starting on Wednesday Sept 9, at Sugarhouse Park on the north side of the pond. This carefully designed program includes core stability exercises,ski specific strengthening techniques,flexibility training,and ski walk and bounding interval work.

Adult Competition Dryland Training - 1 day

Bill Hokanson will also organize adult training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, starting on Sept 8, at Sugarhouse Park, on the grass strip along the north side of the pond. The program is designed to aid skiers in their preparation for the upcoming race season. These are high intensity sessions, designed to supplement distance training that adult skiers traditionally perform on their own.

Learn to Ski Program

This program is for young skiers age 4-8 years old and takes place on four Sundays in January 2010. The program meets at Mountain Dell Golf Course in Parleys Canyon. Sessions are scheduled from 1:00-2:30 p.m. with the exception of the first session when parents and children are asked to arrive by 12:30 p.m. so they can find their class and meet their instructors. Each session consists of ski games and activities (relay races, treasure hunts, obstacle courses) that introduce children to skiing and basic ski techniques, with an emphasis on FUN and lots of parent participation.

Youth League Ski Team - 2 day

This program is for for kids 8-19 years old, Beginner to advanced skiers. Emphasis on fun, teaching ski skills, and developing a life long interest in x-c skiing. Skiers are sorted based on age and ability during the first few sessions of the season to ensure that all skiers are placed in compatible groups. During the classes over the season skiers will take part in one or two Mt Dell fun races.

The Touring group is open to kids 13 older. Although most sessions will be at Mtn. Dell, this group will emphasize exploring off trail areas and may include some weekend tours in the Wasatch. Touring group skiers should have a minimum of one year Nordic experience. Although the Touring group only meets on Tuesday, skiers wishing to ski two days per week may ski Thursday with the Recreation and Development groups.

Junior Comp Ski Team J3/J4 - 3 day

Part of the Salt Lake Nordic Ski Team
This is a more active, competition oriented program incorporating a combination of games and formal training for kids ages 10-13. It is for those skiers with an interest in developing their skiing skills and for those anticipating participating in cross country ski racing. Skiers should be proficient in both classic and skating techniques.

The Competition Ski Team is part of the Salt Lake Nordic Ski Team (SLNST) and is open to all kids from 14 to 19 who are interested in a higher level of training, technique development, and participation in local and regional races. The competition group meets approximately four days per week, and also includes some weekend activities, such as special clinics, participation in local and regional races, and other events. Winter session begins in December and continues through mid-March, weather permitting. The Comp Ski Team is under the supervision of head coach Bill Hokanson.

Adult Ski Training Group

Goal: To form a training group for skiers that either want to improve their racing results and/or for established skiers that just want to improve their skiing in general! Having a training group will not only motivate everyone to train effectively, but more importantly, it will help to create a social network of skiers that are working to achieve common goals for the season: one of which is to HAVE FUN ski training!

OJ/J1/J2 Comp Team Dryland Training
Fall dryland training for competitive junior Nordic skiers age 14-19 will begin on Tuesday September 8 at Sugarhouse Park. Meet on the grass strip along the north side of the pond. Dryland training will continue at various local sites Monday – Thursday afternoons plus frequent weekend sessions through November. The program is designed to prepare Comp Team skiers for the upcoming local and USSA Intermountain Division race season.
